Beaches in Belize: What to Bring on Your Camp Out

Are you planning to camp out on the beaches in Belize? You couldn’t pick a more beautiful place, but make sure you’re prepared. Here are some of the essential things you should pack with you.

Bug Spray (Lots of It)

Belize is in tropics, and there many biting bugs around, especially in the wet season (June through December) — including mosquitoes, sandflies, and fire ants. As repellent is expensive in Belize, you should buy some before you leave, and make sure it has DEET. Also, don’t forget to bring anti-itch cream in case you do get bitten.

The sun can get very strong in Belize. Don’t forget, it’s pretty near the equator. Take lots of sunscreen with you and choose the highest SPF you can find.

Easy Dry Towel

A thin small towel has almost limitless uses. You can dry yourself off after a shower or a swim, or use them to clean yourself when you have no other options. What’s more, they’re easy to pack. Make sure to bring a few and rotate which ones you use each day.

Rash Cream

If you plan on doing any diving or snorkeling, rash cream is essential. You can get rashes from dive gear and from brushing up against corral. This is also a great thing to have on hand if you plan to do much hiking.

Fishing Shirts

You don’t have to fish in order to find many uses for a fishing shirt. These lightweight garments cover and protect your skin in the harshest environments.

Headlamp Flashlight

You might find yourself camping out in a place without lights. These inexpensive items are the perfect night time accessory. Many are even waterproof.

First-Aid Kit

You never know what could happen to you while camping. Make sure to bring such essential items as band-aids, pain relievers, and tweezers.

Rain Gear

If you are traveling to Belize in the rainy season, make sure you bring a raincoat and an umbrella. A waterproof tent and sleeping bag is also a good idea.

Don’t forget to bring basic necessities like toothpaste and a toothbrush, as well as soap and shampoo and deodorant. Make sure you buy lightweight travel-size items that you can take with you on the plane.

You could find yourself in a place without food, so pack some with you. Granola bars, trail mix and nuts are both filing and easy to pack.

Essential Oils

Essential oils have hundreds of uses — many of which are helpful on camping trips. This includes keeping tents and clothes fresh as well as using some to clear airways. doTERRA recommends diluting their products and similar oils with water before use.

You’ll have far more fun on your trip if you prepare for every contingency. Now you can.
