Ready to travel to Belize, but not sure what to pack? Check out the lists below for my tried and true Belize packing list, to help you decide what to bring!
|Bug Spray||Whether you’re going to the beach or the jungle, bug spray is something you should definitely pack.|
If you’re ok with using DEET, Repel Sportsman Insect Repellent is a nice travel size option. I recommend just spraying your clothes, DEET is a strong chemical that really shouldn’t come into contact with skin.
Want something less harmful? Try this potent natural bug spray All Terrain Herbal Armor DEET-Free Natural Insect Repellent
|Sunscreen|| A rule of thumb I learned from my friend Terri, is that you should reapply your sunscreen based on the SPF strength. 20SPF? Reapply every 20 minutes. 50spg? Reapply every 50 minutes.|
The only exception would be Riemann P20 Once a Day SPF 50 Sun Cream, as it actually lasts all day!
|Beach Towel||I never travel without my turkish towel! It’s lightweight, so it packs easy and dries fast. Here’s the one I have, Turkish Peshtemal Towels 100% Cotton and I love it!|
|Footwear||Water shoes and an extra pair of socks are required if you’re going on a cave adventure! While many tour operators do provide water shoes, double check before they go so you don’t end up scrambling to buy them there. Here’s a pair that I’ve found to be great CIOR Men and Women’s Barefoot Quick-Dry Water Sports Aqua Shoes. You’ll want to wear that extra pair of socks with your water shoes, as at least for the ATM caves there’s a point where you take your shoes off, and will want the soft socks to walk in.|
Hiking shoes, will come in handy if you plan to do hiking, or horse riding. While you can definitely get away with just using your everyday sneakers, I looove my Caterpillar Women’s Champ boots! They’re the most comfortable hiking/work boots I’ve ever owned.
|Pants||Bring some long pants to protect you from bugs in the evening, and a pair of jeans or long leggings if you plan to go horse back riding.|
|Shirts||You’ll want a long sleeve shirt to wear when you’re out in the sun. I love my Columbia Women’s Tamiami II Long Sleeve Shirt. It’s super light weight, but gives you coverage to protect from the sun as well as bugs.|
|Weather Protection||Be sure to also include a rain jacket if you’re going near the rain season. You might want a long sleeve shirt or sweat shirt during the cold months, and a sun hat is always nice for long days in the sun!|
|Backpack / Day pack||I like to pack light, so I pack all my stuff into my Osprey Packs Farpoint 40 Travel Backpack. I’ve used this all over the world, and have loved it!|
However, I also like to have something to take with me on day trips. For my day pack I bring my Sumtree 35L Ultra Lightweight Foldable Packable Backpack. Actually often on shorter trips I just use this as my full backpack, and unpack it to use for day trips as well.
